ARCHITECTURE

______

Utilising Adobe Illustrator, I created flat lifework images of buildings which I photographed and observed around Manchester, taking inspiration from the artist Julian Opie and his minimal art style. Whilst keeping the images simple and flat in nature, I chose to increase the detail of each image by selecting each colour for sections like the glass panels on the buildings. This helped to increase the realism of the images with the use of subtly changing tones which I picked from the real images. I also experimented with adding patterns to the images, looking at the works of Patric Caulfield whose images were often monochromatic with contrasting colours and patterns used to highlight key elements of the image. I took that general idea and applied it to create the blue patterned images found below.

Continuing the theme of analysing architecture and combining it with artistic styles similar to other artists, I chose to contrast the previous simple and flat pieces with more complex and grunge-y pictures inspired by the artist Molokid. Using Adobe Photoshop, I created collages of different images taken around Manchester, overlaying them and combining them with filters and dirt effects to push the grunge feel of the images. As well as incorporating design elements reminiscent of those used by the artist, I analysed the work of another artist David Carson, who uses typography in a scattered and corrupted way. Combining the artistic cues from each designer, I created the gritty industrial posters showing off snippets of Manchester.
